Sofitel Imperial of group ACCOR saw its efforts towards environmental protection being rewarded last week by Award for Sustainable Tourism to the National Quality Awards.
This award comes to reward Sofitel Imperial for its ambitious program for sustainable tourism (launched on the level of the group throughout the world) which implies not only the employees of the hotel, but also the customers.
 « Fight against AIDS, sexual exploitation of the children in tourism, taken into account of climate warming and the need for preserving the resources, access to water, local development; as many subjects on which the Accor Group acts since many years. _ “More recently, some new priorities were added to the actions carried out within various marks in the world: promotion of a healthy and balanced food, waste recycling, safeguarding of the biodiversity, supports for the equitable trade. In all these fields Accor installed indicators allowing to measure the progress made and to lay down ambitious objectives for the future which will be taken into account everywhere where Accor Group develop in the coming years ».
In an interview, the director of Sofitel Imperial, Frederic Clement, explained that the future of Mauritius Tourism should necessarily pass by a total implication in sustainable tourism.
« One cannot consider a Mauritian sustainable tourism industry without a constant attention with all that touches with the environment. So that Mauritian Tourism Industry survive, it is necessary to preserve Mauritius, like it is, in all its beauty ».
« At Sofitel Imperial we add our contribution to the required effort. We thus set up the recycling of waste, which does not go without difficulties because there does not exist yet any treatment of waste per category in Mauritius. But it should begin somewhere, and we did it ».
Sofitel Imperial set up a committee made up representatives of each department of the hotel to conclude all the identified actions. In addition to the waste recycling, the manufacture of compost or the respect of the biodiversity, the environmental action of Sofitel touches, for example, the rooms with water and energy saving programs.
Sofitel Imperial also had the honor to see its Resident Manager, Farhaad Baboorally to be nominated in the category of “Most Outstanding Supportive Mauritian Manager Award » at the National Quality Awards.
